Annual Report

The annual report presents information on the work and achievements of the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs, and a financial review of its performance over the year.

Statement of Intent

The Statement of Intent provides information to Parliament and the New Zealand public about how the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs intends to achieve its stated goals.

Chief Executive expenses

As of November 2010, the State Services Commissioner requires chief executives of public service departments and crown entities to disclose their expenses every six months and make this information publicly available.

Explanatory note:

Government priorities for Pacific peoples are lifting incomes and living standards, making progress in Auckland and promoting Pacific cultures and languages.

As the majority of New Zealand’s Pacific peoples live in Auckland much of our work with and for them happens there. We also have a South Island team based in Christchurch. This necessitates travel.

We are a small agency which means the CE has a more hands-on role than many of those in other public sector agencies.

In the interests of financial prudence we:

  • group Auckland (and other) commitments so that each CE visit encompasses several engagements
  • use rental cars/airport carparking in preference to taxis
