Developing Pacific senior leaders for the future
In June 2011 the first cohort of the Pacific Senior Manager Leadership Development programme, sponsored by the Ministry of Pacific Island Affairs and the Leadership Development Centre, completed the inaugural nine month programme.
The programme has been a success, receiving positive evaluations from participants who found the high calibre of speakers excellent with their inspiring messages and direct approach to communicating with them. The speakers were drawn from across the Pacific community, private sector, public sector, church and governance. The participants also valued the opportunity to focus on creating individual development plans and worked together to develop a collective plan to ensure that a legacy is left for future Pacific generations.
The programme provides the ability to connect with other senior Pacific people from across the wider public sector and gave participants an understanding of the dimensions of leadership required for success in senior leadership positions.
It is recognised that Pacific people are under-represented in management positions (and, in particular, senior positions) in the public sector. As a result, those who presently occupy management roles are often culturally isolated professionally. Furthermore, Pacific managers are often called upon to balance family and community responsibilities with the demands of their roles.
The Pacific Senior Managers Leadership Development Programme is designed to equip participants with both the skills and support networks to better resolve these potential tensions and support progression to more senior positions.

As a result of the recent success of the prgoramme, nominations are now being called for the second Pacific Senior Manager Leadership Development Programme which will commence in late October 2011.
Nominations close 2 September 2011 and further information on this programme is available here.
